Mfisiv's Park
(previously Mercer Park)
Location: Center of the Royal City. Surrounded by the merchants market.
Description: A large patch of lush grass with a large tree, fenced in with logs and wood. Four openings - one on each side of the park. Used for relaxation, play, and down-time among ivalicians.
History: The park first took form during the second generation's ruling, under King Skalith Mercer and his loving wife, Queen Risem Malvi. Royal City had begun to take shape and it was built around one large tree everyone had come to love. They avoided building too close to the tree, but they did build around it - for a while. It slowly formed a patch of paradise - a city oasis - within the royal city. Just before Skalith died, he named it Mercer Park, and declared it was never to be built upon.
During Queen Quilyr Mercer's rule (aka the Mad Queen), the park fell into disarray. It was poorly tended to and with the wrong-doings of the queen, it seemed the park reflected the loss of life. So when her son and only surviving child, Mfisiv, took the throne and became king after daunting life-and-death trials to find safety and alert the guardsmen to his mother's behavior, the kingdom seemed to shout their praise. Not only that, but the park appeared to come back to life.
Wanting to find a way to honor King Mfisiv and how he was able to right the wrong of his mother before him, the ivalician council - making a rare appearance in light of all recent events - declared the park to be renamed Mfisiv's Park, in remembrance of a king who put forward his all for his subjects, and even had mercy on his cruel mother.
Mercer Tree: The large tree in the center of the park - the very center of the city - is still often referred to as Mercer Tree by older ivalicians. Something that some younger generations may pick up on as well.
