The Fear That Novis Binds With
It was with a flap of a butterfly's wings that everything would shift. Not on some stormy day, with clouds covering the sky in an ominous way. Not with large climate changes that would foretell the future. No. A simple flap of a butterfly's wings. Many moons ago, the things upon this land had ascended to a new level. The magic was grand, beautiful, the creatures had grown in size, in species, intellect, learning to coexist. But with the open and close of one, small butterfly's wings, the world that had come to be known as Novis would forever change. This past climate had been quite harsh. More harsh than ever before - but it came about far too quickly to know, to even attempt to wonder at the peculiar difference of it than the past summer. But for the Desert's sand to burn paws, for the Marshlands to have dried up, for the Jungle and Rainforest to have stopped receiving rain, for Forest to begin to wither and actually die, for Veldtlands grass to turn brown. Something was definitely strange on this summer as it began to draw to a close.
That soft rumble that had occurred deep within the earth was not as soft as it seemed. Deep within the earth's core just as the sun was beginning to set, it had shaken, trembled violently... And cracked the surface of the ocean bottom far west of Novis lands.
That one crack began the ripple affect that would change the lives of hundreds, for off the west coast, the water's eager waves seemed to slow, ominous, dangerous. The wind seemed to slow before coming to a stop, the birds seemed to look around before taking to the airs - heading inwards. Inland. Little would anyone whom visited realize that every several hours, the direction of the rippling water of the ocean seemed to change. Back and forth. Back and forth. As if the ocean waves were still trying to caress it's rightful place along the beach even as it was pulled away from it's resting grounds. And yet, this would not be enough to affect other creatures inland. No, something else was needed.
The first quake of the lands that had occurred was not the last - after shocks rumbled within the ocean floors, gaining ground ever closer to the lands of Novis. And each aftershock that rippled in affect of the first pushed the salty waters harder and harder. But it was the third aftershock that struck true twelve hours later, just as the morning sun began to rise. The creatures of Novis would awaken, thinking nothing wrong of the day ahead as they would never have noticed that the quakes seemingly traveled across the earth's core without alerting a single presence, dead in the center of Novis. No, the creatures knew something was wrong. They were abnormal after all, each and every single species that graced Novis was unique. But not even they would be prepared for what was to come. They would feel something coming, but not know what. Perhaps they felt a sense of dread.
But it would only be when the earth seemed to explode that any Novis Species would even know why they felt anything at all. And explode Novis did. Violently. From the farthest area of Magmoria to the lowest island in the south of Cul-de-Sac. The tremors that wracked every inch, every centimeter, was grand enough to throw every critter, every creature, every feline, canine, harpy, equine, and cervine into pure panic...
But more than that... Even as the ground shook, even as the majority of the creatures began to run as the land rose defiantly around them, seemingly to tear at the seams... Something even more terrifying took hold.
In the far off distance, another giant awakened, boiling in rage as it was distrubed - and it exploded. The sound was deafening for thousands of miles, similar to that of several atomic bombs going off at once. The fumes that erupted into the air shot straight up well over twenty miles high, easily seen for hundreds of miles around. The gray cloud plumed before curling outwards taking the shape of a large, gigantic mushroom. The energy that crackled around it, positive in energy, shot straight into the core of Novis' Volcano - lightning. A beautifully, horrifying sight. It would incite fear like no other.
Because as Novis' Volcano erupted, it shook the grounds far more than the quake that had begun. Combined, the disasters were horrific as the land lifted to the skies, separated from each other, formed cracks. And it disturbed the oceanic waters that had already been stilled horribly so. For as Novis' Volcano seemed to distract all that were near and far... Off the west coast of Novis, the water receded. And receded. And receded even further still. Until it seemed as if there was nothing but a large dark blue line on the horizon...
Was it...?
No...
Yes.
The water was approaching, swifter than a hare could run, covering the beach in an instant, and slamming brutally into the mountains that blocked it from it's destination: the inlands.
On the west, a tsunami reaches only over ninety feet tall - yet the power that has been given to it allows it to easily crash over the protective mountains of Novis - the sound almost deafening in its own right as it alerts those near by, even as it begins its decent into the valleys. In the center, a Volcano, powerful, angry, releases a large amount of ash and sulfur dioxide - and the temperature drops violently, 1.3°C, 34.34°F, in reaction. The lava shoots high, straight into the air before beginning it's violent descent, the clouds slowly begin to cover the lands from the sun - and it's a sure sign that it will travel far before it ever falls. And the worst of it all? The land literally seems to fall apart beneath the creatures of Novis who are now realizing - they must begin to flee desperately for their lives...
And hope and pray they can remain with their loved ones. Their prides. Their families and friends.

Welcome to a New Age
Fear is a powerful emotion. It takes a hold of all that we know and pushes us to act in ways we probably never would have before. It forces a fight or flight reaction to take place, pumps a us full of adrenaline, and shoves us to move. And when there is no choice given between fight or flight? If there's no option but to run? We run like hell. We run as if the demons of the past have broken loose and snap at our heels. It is only those that are forced to be reminded they have others to care for, pride leaders, or rogues in small groups, or even families, that can even begin to comprehend things around them with a small sense of normalcy. They command, help, but only barely. They are forced to realize those around them - those they care for - are fearing for their lives and running about entirely irrationally. They watched those around them get hurt, become sick, ill, gravely injured, or even die. And there is nothing they can do about it except hope that their voice gets through to their family, their loved ones, their pride, that they can bring about rationality back to the forefront of the mind. Or at least the ability to follow command. It is nothing but a "hear me now, listen to my voice, to my command, and nothing else. I will make sure you survive." It is not always the best of things - but it works. If only just.
Years have passed by upon the Lands of Novis, a land that has been home to many a creature. It has seen war, bloodshed, tears, pain, love, families - many, many families mind you - and the growth has been exponential. No one would have guessed that it would all come crumbling down in a scant few minutes. Seconds, even. It was on August the second that the Novis as the creatures that resided on it knew, changed. Prides, families, and rogues were going about their day as they had been when they were rudely thrown from everything they knew to be normal. The lands had erupted from a startling, powerful earthquake, changing the very face of the grounds they'd come to be so familiar with. Cracks spider-webbed across the grounds, thin and wide, near and far, and just as deep in some cases - so far that red could be seen glowing from deep within if one chanced looking. Not many did.
Panic had erupted violently within the hearts of every creature that crossed the lands - some became trapped, many lost friends, loved ones, daughters, mothers, sons and fathers. The names of those lost will forever be engraved in the hearts of those whom will remember - and remembered they would be. The prides, rogues, and all rushed across the lands as they fled for their own lives - running into one another as they did so and prides, for the first time in the longest time, were forced to interact with each other - and rely on one another. They were forced to help, or perish if they did not. And more so than that, they were forced to be within short distances of each other. No one was safe now as they confronted past, future, and present issues, be it between family, feelings, or any thing of the sort - they would all be facing each other soon enough as they traveled the lands.
And more than that... As the newly erupted volcano spewed lava from it's mouth and covered the lands in ashes - it was clear there would be no fall weather. Not this year. For as the prides slowly converged upon one another - with startling realization that they were closing distances between each other - the air chilled abruptly, dropping far faster than ever would be normal. The grass frosted beneath their paws, hooves, their breaths chilled the air in small puffs. And among the ashes that spread across the skies - white slowly and surely began to mingle with the gray. If not for the bountiful array of colors gifted upon the species of Novis - and the closeness of them to one another - it would surely have pulled them apart as snow began to fall, quickly, and swiftly beginning to cover the grounds.
Now, I'm not saying that we can't continue to roleplay this event - far from it. If anyone feels like making smaller threads for all of their active characters to show what happened to them/their current location/etc, feel free to do so - and I believe it's a great idea to have this kind of thread especially if someone really wants to reply to a specific character for something (Like... A good example would be Najisi, Devyn, Osic, Carnal and that lot seeing each other after so long; or Tainted One seeing Zalui and Shade off in the distance if they pass too close to those borders. Those were the first two to pop in my head, don't shoot me.) And there are plenty others that can happen similar to those too.
And of course, we can obviously continue with some of the threads that are open as of now too if anyone wishes to continue rping what's currently out there.
Sooo those are my opinions/ideas - and I'd like to hear everyone else's opinions and ideas too if anyone else wants to tack on something (none of the "I like this" though, if you have an opinion - like an actual contributing opinion, please state that - but if you just agree with this please don't just say "I agree" ^^; )
