Proper Name: Abyssus Leo Homeland: Hellet Current (Living) Count: 89 Purebloods Short Summary: Hellions are an ancient, highly evolved species of felid-Dragon. They can live and thrive in most climates, and their appearances differ depending on where they live. They can live for a very long time, even centuries. They do not contract common sicknesses or diseases due to immensely powerful immune systems but are susceptible to some feline ailments. They are not immortal, however, and do not have multiple lives like most other feline species. They tend to fair on the independent side, but occasionally will come together to form prides. There's a lot of conflict amongst the purebloods over acceptance of those with mixed blood. They have been brought back from the brink of extinction, but they are still endangered as successful reproduction is difficult amongst purebloods. {:: BREED VARIANTS ::} Hellions come in two main varieties: 'Blacknose' and 'Colornose'. The Blacknoses, as their name suggests, have black noses and follow color traits like Phantasmagoria Aurobori (Above Eye/Belly the same color and lighter than the Pelt, Below Eye/Inner Ear/Tail Tip the same color and lighter or darker than the Pelt). The Colornoses have non-Black noses, which is generally the same color as their Under Eye color. They follow traits like Freesia Faire (Above Eye/Belly/Inner Ear all the same color and lighter than the pelt, Under Eye/Tail Tip/Nose all the same color and generally darker than the Pelt). {:: HYBRIDS ::} Despite the opinion of most Hellions to remain pure as their own species, some have taken to cross-breeding with other species in order to create stronger, more powerful offspring. The most prominent inter-species matings occur between Hellions and BloodBeasts, creating what are known as Hellbeasts. Much like Ligers (hybrids created from cross-breeding a male Lion with a female Tiger), Hellbeasts grow to enormous proportions, as well as inherit all the strengths of both parent species with none of the weaknesses. Their fur palettes are extremely volatile, creating a wide array of color and marking combinations.{:: COLOR MUTATIONS ::} Melanism is essentially non-existent within the Hellion species, but four other pigment abnormalities have been seen: Albinism (Pale, almost white with brightened marking and eye colors), Leucism (paler than normal but not nearly as pale as Albinos, with pale markings/eyes and dark pink noses), Erythrism (completely red hues) & "Maltese" (completely blue hues). Leucism is the most common of these anomalies, with 10% of all Hellions exhibiting this trait. Albinism & Erythrism account for 5%, and "Maltese" accounts for 2%. All color morphs are genetic and possible to be inherited but both parents must be carriers of the gene for the cubs to be possible of exhibiting them.{:: SUB-SPECIES ::} There are currently three known sub-species of Hellions: Hiematus, Nemorensis, and Ignigena.Hiematus Hellions have adapted to live in extremely cold climates. Both males and females have thick, double layered coats (the undercoat is also waterproof), short ears and extra tufts of fur on their backs and legs to keep them warm in the frigid temperatures. Their colors tend to favor hues of blues and violets, including their eyes and markings. Their paws are like that of a Snow Leopard, working like snow shoes and allowing them to easily walk on top of snow banks. Nemorensis Hellions have adapted to live in densely wooded areas, taking to living in the trees. Both males and females are slightly smaller in body than average, have short, thin coats, long, tufted ears and long, thin tails. They have evolved beyond the need for wings, as flight would be impossible amongst the trees. Their colors tend to favor hues of browns and greens, and their eyes are usually shades of greens and yellows. They are expert climbers much like Leopards, and their paws have extra long, sharp and durable claws to help them grip the trees they live in. Ignigena Hellions have adapted to live in extremely hot climates. Males have very short manes and females generally have none; less fur means less heat being kept close to the body. They have thin, loose coats that let air flow through the fur easily to keep them cool and are generally shades of dark grays and reds. They have very high tolerance to heat, including fire and even lava, however they are not immune to the effects and can succumb to severe burns or even death if enveloped in such for too long. {:: CREATE YOUR OWN ::} Body Parts: Head 2 with Head Marking 4 (back splash), Tail 2 or 3 with Body and Tail Marking 4 (back splash). Wings 1 or 2 are optional, though wings are dominant to no wings. Males use Mane 3, Mane 5, Mane 16 or Mane 20 (optional for Females). Males can have back/neck tufts, females can under specific circumstances (or with permission). Average adult females are between 1.4 & 1.5 in size, adult males are slightly smaller (1.2 - 1.4).Colors and Placement: Hellions only come in dark or faded colors (barring color mutations). Other colors will be based from the color of the pelt and in the same hue family, just a matter of sliding the lightness bar up or down depending on what you're going for.* Underbelly color and Above Eye color are the same as each other, and must be lighter than the pelt color. Below Eye color, Inner Ear color and Tail Tip color are the same as each other, and can be either lighter or darker than the pelt color. Nose can be black or the same color as Under Eye/Inner Ear/Tail Tip color. Eye color and Marking color are usually the same as each other and can be any color, though the marking can also be inherited from a parent or grandparent's pelt or marking color. Wings are the same color as the pelt, and Mane is usually black but can be a much darker shade of the pelt or match the marking color (with permission). *FOOTNOTE 1: For colors as an example, 50/50/50 pelt means other colors must be in the same format, like 10/10/10 or 90/90/90. If the numbers are random, like 100/37/25, a darker color would be like 80/17/5 (20 points down from pelt) or a lighter color would be 150/87/75 (50 points above pelt), and so on). Hellions cannot be or have pure black (except for mane color/nose color) or pure white (unless Albino for mane color). Leucistic pelts are any colors between 140 and 190 hex codes (ex: Lilac, owned by LAD). Albino pelts are anything above 200 and almost completely washed out (ex: William, owned by me). PLEASE ask for assistance before making these mutations. |
