Living within the hottest of deserts and steppes, small, sandy-colored creatures live, fight, and burrow their life away. They are loud little things, and very aggressive to approach at the wrong time of day.. All of them are the size of House cats, and only carry earthy tones to match the ground they burrow in. A defining characteristic for Male Kelvonites is their tall back ridge that extends their mane, and their vibrant, warm colored eyes. Females are more so known for their smaller manes, and paler warm-colored eyes, as well as their incredible docility in comparison to males. They are often seen in hoards, but never alone. They know they are stronger, because of their small size, in large numbers.
These little desert screamers have many abilities- many of which make them difficult to approach by other species. Their aggression is the main feature, caused by the nerves in their back ridges. The tall stacks of fur on their back are laden with heat-sensitive nerves, causing a constant agitation within the sun. They are also incredibly venomous, a bite from them being a very nasty thing to walk away with. Their sharp little fangs and saliva are laced with bacteria that prevents lacerations from healing quickly. Next to their ability to carve delicate tunnel systems and burrows, perhaps their most popular ability is their incredible screams. Whenever they feel threatened, they will let out a chorus of shrill yells to disorient the attacker. Usually, it does in fact work, and even more so in large numbers when the screams become deafening. The shrill, rage filled scream is usually enough to cause potential predators to simply give up their onslaught altogether.

Males are the most aggressive face of Kelvonites, because of the Ridges on their backs containing heat sensitive nerves. During the day they are usually active with agitation, and prone to frequent spars with other males- as fighting between males isn't seen as out of the ordinary in their little societies. Though they can live with other males in peace, fights happen awfully often during the day, and their saliva often makes fighting lethal without the right treatment. As the day winds down though, and the temperature especially, the mellow out. Past their incredible aggression, they are actually very protective of their families- choosing one special female to bear their children and usually staying with them. Aggression may cause abuse, but it is a complete taboo within their culture- and deeply frowned upon. In the terms of being a father, it could go one of two ways.
Some Kelvonites are smarter than others. Or at least, some are cooler-headed. The darker the color of their ridge, the more aggressive or 'heated' they are. Vice versa to Kelvonites with light manes and ridges, they are often less aggressive because less heat is seeping into their ridges and to their nerves- thus lighter manes Kelvonites are less clouded with anger, and subsequently more rational. Lighter Kelvonites are often the level-headed leaders conducting business, and Darker Kelvonites hold lower on the chain. That being said, lighter males generally make for more attentive fathers, but that wont always be true.
Female Kelvonites are very different from their male counterparts. They are very docile, sweet, and very close to other sisters in their hoards. Like lighter Kelvonite males, they are very smart and keen without the agitating nerves, and make the middle class between Light Males and Dark Males. It is a social taboo to mate outside husbands and wives, though it isn't unheard of- when a female goes into heat, she hides until night-time, when the males are less agressive. She herself will choose what male she wants to mate with, and most females stay loyal to one male. They are excellent mothers, and give birth to a maximum of 12 very small babies in a brood after a few small weeks of pregnancy, and watch over them like protective hawks until they are adolescents. Until then they are in charge of keeping them alive in a very chaotic atmosphere.

Language between these creatures is very simplified. Growls, Snarls, Screams, Meeps and Chuffs characterize their constant speak. Though many can speak clearly to other creatures, they keep much feral speaking between themselves, a sort of unspoken, understood communication.
Kelvonites believe in four main gods; the father, the mother, and the twins of war. The king of gods is referred to as Kel the Reveler, and is the god of one of their key values; partying. He is also the symbol for earth. The queen is referred to as Kia the Mother, and is the goddess of fertility and life. She stands for the element of water. The two of them combined to create the twins of war; Zeros the Warrior and Zactos the Scholar, two values they find very important within the art of war. Zeros stands for chaotic fire and Zactos stands for the calm, flowing element of air. Zeros is seen as pitch black, while Zactos is pure white. It is revealed that viewed up close, Zeros' fur is made of black claws from his enemies, and Zactos is covered in white eyelids. Twins have said to be born in the mortal word with black and white manes- the phenomenon can only be seen to them as divine intervention.
As for rituals, expect lots of bonfires and Kelvonites getting drunk off their asses on cactus juice. Weddings are particularly fun, as they end in an orgy, and is the only time you'll see a Kelvonite- ironically- being unfaithful. Boys coming into manhood go through one of two things; a ritualistic spar to the death, or a venture through specially made labyrinth. If you live, you become a man. Though sometimes, depending on the leaders opinions, all parties may be allowed to live. When children are born, they hold a celebratory bonfire. When they die, they hold a celebratory bonfire again. In fact, the bonfire just stays ablaze most of the time.
Two things are passed around mostly as decor, and have very different meanings. Feathers are worn mostly by females, as gifts from suitors trying to impress them. When she chooses a mate, she will strip the rest of the feathers and wear only those that her mate has given her. Sometimes, though not as common, males can be seen wearing the same feather as a sign of their partnership. Males very often wear tokens of their wins in sparring. They keep one tooth and / or claw from each slain foe they defeat in battle, stuck through a piece of leather and tied around their necks. Not all males wear them, as not all males spar, but the vast majority do.

Kel the Reveler is the main god of the Kelvonites, and is the master of their wild nature and parties. Kelvonites believe they can reach him through building a bonfire, and keeping it lit. He is believed to look the most like an everyday Kelvonite, as Kelvonites were made in his own image. The only differentiating factors are that he carries a brazier filled with coals on his back, and he sports a large pair of ram horns. His element is earth, but more-so the mortal aspect rather than physical. The tall monstrous ridge on his back can be identified as mountains.
Kia the Mother is the main god worshiped by female Kelvonites, as she is the goddess of Life, Love, and Fertility. She is mated to Kel, and they both oversee the marriage of Kelvonites. Her element is water, and she too carries an item on her back- a jug of water. It sits upon the nape of her neck, she bends forward to give life to the world. This position is not to be taken for submission, she she can easily pull her head up and take that life away, she is heavily respected. She too looks like an ordinary kelvonite, but is very light in her pelt color, and has no mane.
Xeros is the first of the twins of War, and he resembles its chaotic, uncontrollable side. His appearance is pitch black, his fur appearing normal until upon closer inspection- his fur is made up of scorched black claws of his enemies. He is the king of darker Kelvonites, and the lord of military power. He is a fighter, not a thinker, unlike his brother. His element is fire, and his eyes are said to be blazing with the fires of war.
Xactos is the second twin of war, and the more level-headed of the two. He is worshiped greatly by the lighter Kelvonites, and greatly known for his incredible knowledge. He is the complete opposite of Xeros, and takes the appearance of blank white, because his body is covered in white eyelids. All of the eyes covering his body can open at once, but even for him it's incredibly difficult, so he usually only is seen with a few open at a time to survey a clearer area. His element is air, and paws can stomp into whirlwinds. He is believed to have a library high in the clouds, and lighter Kelvonites who care about the afterlife hope to reach it when they pass away.
A myth that goes with the gods is one that is used to explain why a single set of twins in born every generation, bearing both the white and black manes that are so rare to their species. It is unexplained to them scientifically, and can only be described as divine intervention. These twins are always brothers or sisters, rarely ever a mix of the two, and they are said to be gifts from Xeros and Xactos, the black and white gods of war. They are reveled by their species, and cherished; because if a generation goes without this pair of twins, they fall into a area of endangerment. Recently, two generations went without these twins, and Kelvonites became endangered, for whatever reasons the gods had. The twins have been restored, and it is hoped that the numbers will rise because of their return.
