Skarlett 'Shakou' Oberon
It was cold.
How exactly she got here, the mutt wasn't entirely sure. Just that she was walking along, trying to get away from everything, and then the storm hit, icy rain that clung to her fur and stung at her dark eyes until they watered. On shaky paws, breath coming in cloudy puffs, she eventually found something that looked like a cave, hollowed out in the side of a snow-covered mountain.
That seemed like a good enough place as any to stop and get some rest, wait out this Hellish weather.
Toes scuffing pebbles when she found the rocky floor of the makeshift den, she took a wary sniff around, making certain nothing else was already calling this place home. Once she determined it safe enough for her to stay, she lay down and curled up into herself, tailtip draped over the bridge of her muzzle. But she stayed ever vigilant, watching the world rage just outside. She couldn't let her guard down -- Not when things were so unpredictable.

A rather unique mountain lioness prowled quietly through the rocks. Rae Owacc absolutely adored this kind of weather... Well, maybe not as extreme as it was now, but the stock feline did not mind it. She had been tracking a ram through the rocks and finally found herself at the end of the line. In a single, explosive leap, she rocketed over six meters and landed upon her prey. It was over without a sound. She silently congratulated herself for finally succeeding catching her food before it had the time to alert everything around it. She picked it up and drug it off toward a cave she had passed.
For a cougar, she was quite Large, at a little over two hundred and twenty pounds. Upon reaching the cave, a scent came to her nose and her ears went flat. There was another in here and her jaws part, a soft growl of sorts coming from her. A very thick tail lashed out behind her. She dropped the ram, but put a paw over it, unwilling to give it up, nor willing to eat out ing there cold. She remained silent, though her expression suggested she would attack if needed.

Her dark eyes had caught movement, keen sense of smell telling her that someone was coming -- And they had caught prey, by the sharp, metallic scent of blood. It was hard to ignore the pained, hungry cramps in her stomach. She certainly didn't expect to actually meet anyone or anything out here...
And well, whoever they were, they weren't exactly making a very good first impression, so she regrettably uncurled from her core of inner warmth, taking a few steps forward in her little hiding place to investigate. It was another female, just outside. Interesting. "...I found this cave first." She spoke quickly, not really in the mood to beat around the bush. "But if you share the kill, then you can stay here too."
She wasn't really going to be hostile. Bargaining was easier than picking a fight.

Rae relaxed as she read the other's body language. Her ears perked forward and she carried the ram in. Her thick tail moved behind her. She dropped the mountain goat near her and tilted her head. "Sounds sensible," she replied softly. "Sorry, but most in the caves tend to attack right away. You don't look too suited to this kind of place. Are you a traveler?" She looked relieved that there would no fighting would take place. The cougar may have been stocky, but she was a hunter, not a fighter, at least in build. A confined space would not be good if for someone who relied solely on agility.

The fae fought back another shiver against the bitter cold, barely able to stop her fangs from chattering together.
Good, she was willing to be reasonable and cooperate.
Giving a nod, she took the unfortunate mountain goat by one of the hind legs, starting to drag it back into the safety of their cave so they could eat in peace. Once she figured they were far enough inside to at least be kind of comfortable, she tucked her legs up under herself again, starting to pluck fur so she could get to warm meat.
"I got lost on my way to...Well, nowhere really." She shrugged. "But I know I didn't want to find THIS place, that's for damned sure..."

The mountain lion yawned and followed her back, not nearly so bothered by the cold. She was quite sympathetic, thus when they went back into the cave, she laid down right against the female in an attempt to help her keep warm. Rae tore into her bit less delicately, whiskers twitching constantly. "I live in the mountains. I do terribly in the heat." She lifted a large paw. "See? Good for the snow. Not for hot sand, though. If you want, I can lead you out later." She was hungry, too. However, she hunted regularly. Hares were often caught and a week ago she had gorged on an elk.

She flinched at the initial contact, but it wasn't long and she could feel herself leaning into the other a bit, grateful for the added warmth of her thicker pelt.
Claws digging into the goat's thick body for leverage between the two of them, she finally got to the actual food after carefully stripping it clean. The fur and hair just made her stomach hurt after awhile, and she couldn't really appreciate the meal. So, just as voracious, she ripped off chunk after chunk, certainly feeling better than she was before by the time it's all said and done. How could this other female survive out here?! She couldn't really call it living, because if this was living, she was in a frozen Hell!
"Mm...Sure. But can we go tomorrow? I've been lost here the past two days." She offered a quick glance from her distracted eating to look at the other's paw, brows raised in surprise. They were massive and completely covered in fur! How could she walk anywhere without tripping? But hey, they were each built for two different worlds.

A soft chuckle came from the cougar. "Whenever you're ready is fine by me. We can wait for a break in the blizzard. But you should sleep tonight. I'm tired, too. I was tracking that goat for two days." There were no herds of elk this high in the mountains during this sort of weather. "I'll bet there are some lemmings in this cave." She tilted her head toward the back, ears tilted forward for the telltale sounds of such small prey. After a few moments, she turned her attention to her current companion. The other female did not look at all suited for this land. Her colors were quite unnatural and her ears were more like those of a caracal. "So where are you from? I can't imagine you come from any of the other mountains nearby. By the way, you should keep your ears close to your skull. They're a lot bigger than mine, so they'll get frostbite real fast." She wrapped her tail over the other. It was longer than her body and had incredibly long fur, making it very warm and able to cover a decent amount of area. "Tuck your tail under you. It'll go numb if you let it get too cold."

Ah, well, she certainly didn't want any of her parts falling off. She rather liked having everything attached like they should be. Maybe to help herself warm up later, they could go hunting for those lemmings that might be hiding around here. That goat was more than satisfying, but it wouldn't last long.
So for now, she did as told, drawing her thin tail up underneath herself as well, and folding her ears back flat against her skull. She felt more than a little ridiculous, looking like this, but if that's what it takes to keep herself safe and in one piece under these horrid conditions...Then so be it.
"You're right, I'm not from anywhere near here. I actually used to live in the Badlands when I was many moons younger. And then, back when I was with a male and pregnant, we lived at the base of some dormant volcanoes with his pride. You could say I've been born and raised into the heat." She didn't really like talking about it, her old life seemed like nothing but another world now. But, she asked about it, and she wasn't going to lie to her. She had no reason to. "My name is Skarlett, by the way."

Rae yawned and began to groom herself once she finished eating. She was quite particular about her fur and keeping it nice. Besides, clean fur was warm fur. She listened and brooded on the information for a few moments. She was trying to remember what she had heard about the badlands. There was a war near there in the past. That much she knew either some certainty. Lots of fighting... She could not think of much more than that, however. "A volcano? That sounds dangerous. And exciting," she admitted with a slight smile. "I doubt I could ever live in such a place unless I lost all my fur."
The cougar dipped hefty head respectfully to the it her female. "My name is Rae. Rae Owacc." She stretched her front paws out in front of herself a bit and closed her grayish blue eyes. "I've done nothing nearly so exciting. No cubs, and I have almost alway lived in the mountains. I joined a group for a little while, but the savanna they lived in was a bit hot for me. I've collect a few things, though." At that point, she resituated herself and shook her head and a few crude necklaces were revealed. Her thick, long fur had hidden them. They had bear claws a quill beads. They were quite tribal. However, there was one that stood out among them. A simple necklace adorned with a cross pendant.

"Well, pleased to meet you, Rae." The fae offered an idle smile, dipping her head in greeting. There, now that introductions were out of the way, she didn't feel so odd about sharing a den with a not-so-total stranger. "And I can assure you, it was dangerous and exciting, and a daily adventure." Laughing a bit, she tried to fancy the idea of the other female being completely bald, or at least with a shorter cropped pelt, and she just couldn't picture it. She herself didn't exactly have thin fur, but her pelt wasn't nearly as thick as some other beasts.
When the mountain lioness showed all of her various trinkets from living with her old pride in the Savannah, her brows raised, mild interest and appreciation flashed across her features. "Huh...Well would you look at that." She hummed, a curious noise in the back of her throat. "I've never seen anything like that before. Where did you get them?"

Rae dipped her head. "Well, when the storms get real bad around here, there can be avalanches. Rock slides. It can be like that, too. Just much colder." She nodded. At the laugh, the ouma quickly picked up on what she must have been thinking about. "There are other cougars who live in the tropics. They are well suited to it. Like the Florida Panthers."
She slipped one off. It was made from grizzly bear claws, with some odd fangs and eagle feathers "This one," she started, "would be my oldest. I've been working on it for a while. I killed a bear once. In fact, I still have its pelt in my den. I took his toes off and with the help of a very friendly owl, started to create this. I traveled to some swamps, too, and I shed quite a bit of fur. I killed a gator there. I took some his fang and put it on this. I like to collect and travel. Maybe on our way out, I can show you all the things I have in my den."

Skarlett ' Shakou' OberonFlorida...? Where on Earth was that? Must be someplace far across the sea. After all, there were places even her wings haven't taken her yet. Who knows, maybe she'll come across that strange land before she gets too old.
Attention brought back by the rattling of the claws and fangs, she couldn't deny a bit of shock and admiration on her features. "You took down a bear? Like, an actual bear? With an owl?" And a crocodile too? This female was either a raging lunatic, or one of the boldest felines she's ever met...!
Laughing, she rolled her eyes, shaking her head. "Yes, of course. But are you sure I shouldn't call you 'Dragoness', what with this apparent hoard you've got collecting?" Her own various dens were never lined like that, just a bit of loosed fur and some forest moss, or even a cottonplant if she can find it.
