The King had ushered his son to the side with a simple flick of his tail, moving to a more secluded area temporarily away from the crowd. His dark emerald gaze would travel around from the ground to the sky as he made sure no one was overhearing. Privacy was needed he was sure, especially if his son wished to speak to him specifically.
He would give a grunt in Devyn's direction, a nod to begin once he was settled and ready.

Devyn Naral Kain-Donovan
The young male was still furious about what had happened back there with Carnal and Kimiko, and he followed Funeral intently, having no qualms with brushing his pelt against Funeral's side as he did so. The contact was calming to him. However when his dad turned to face him he knew it was time to get serious, and he sat across from him, pink gaze clashing with emerald. For a moment Devyn searched his dad's gaze - for what he didn't know. But he looked for something that not even he knew what it was. Then he sighed softly. Maybe it was approval, he hadn't the slightest idea. After a brief moment of gathering his thoughts Devyn straightened his form, and began.
"I see how others look at us. I hear what they say, and especially after what just happened between Kimiko and Carnal, I know what they think. I want to know what happened between you and Mom, Dad. I want to know the truth of it all - no cutting corners or anything. And then I want to know why others look at us and-" He cut off sharply, his headbjerking to look at the side for a moment. "And see that our mother was - and I quote - a traitorous whore. And why they throw that in our faces like its our fault. Like we..." Devyn cut off again and shook his head, looking back up at Funeral. "What happened, Dad... And why?"

He stared at his son as he did, allowing nothing but a simple gaze reflect him. Unblinking. Even as the younger male spoke, he did not move. The King thought, and when he finished the father spoke in a deep tone.
"War happened, my son." Inky lips stretched as he spoke, showing powerful daggers beneath lips show briefly. "Members of our own were unhappy. I overheard Reno and your mother speaking, once. They were unhappy with the leadership; they were unhappy with me, with us." His voice stayed even. It was low; solid, but perhaps even slippery. "Your mother and Reno fled, as well as others of our ranks. They left. They made a revolutionary group against us," His ears pinned. "And they wish for us to be destroyed. Just as Ceon had intended for us." The King paused, his maw rippling as he scrunched his nose up slightly. "They want to kill us all. But your mother seems to have a soft spot for her children.." He left it at that, voice holding neutrality.
"They are right to call her - them - traitors. Because for Meutrier.. that is what they are."
His gaze sank, just barely, and landed onto Devyn with some depth to his eyes. "It is not our fault in the least. They made their own decisions, after all. The best we can simply do is ignore them. It does no one good to prove something someone is too stubborn to change their minds and foolish enough to mention it in the first place."

Devyn
He waited for Funeral to begin speaking, and the moment he did, it was nearly unexpected. Sucking in a sharp breath, Devyn listened intently, his gaze never leaving his dads. Slowly though his ears pinned back against his skull as Funeral continued, and his ram-rod straight posture slackened. Mom hadn't been happy? Had she been undermining his dad this whole time? Devyn swallowed hard, a loud gulp really. But he wanted everything. He wanted information, and he was as hard-headed as his parents. "And what happened between you guys personally? Without the politics." he asked, then his gaze flicked out at the dens they were surrounded by. "And the first battle. Do you know what happened there? Why is Osic locked up the way he is? And what'll happen to him?" he questioned, learning the truth was more difficult then he ever thought. Then he paused and sighed again. "And it may not be our fault, but it would be nice if they didn't use it against my sister. Carnal flips when Kimiko is around, and it ticks her off even more when they mention Mom, I think."

"There is not much to tell. In my personal view, she was an unfit Queen. Or became one." His ears twitched gently. His brows furrowed. "She fought with me on the Throne we had at the time. And perhaps I had chosen too soon who was to be my mate. The spark we had was gone, if that is understandable. So we no longer were each others and she was demoted. We won the war with Ceon thanks to her and Reno, ironically. Seems they had other plans after everything dwindled down." He found no reason to not be truthful with his son.
"The first battle.. as I explained, your mother seems to have formed a soft spot for her children. Which is to be expected." He shrugged softly. "She was giving herself up to us. Refused to fight her child. Reno swooped in and took her off, but it was quite a display." Again, vision and outlook at a neutral point. "I am.. still thinking of what to do with your brother." There was a clear frown; a stretch downward of his lips.
"I agree it would. It goes to show how immature and cynical we can be." A light snort. "If it happens again, I may have to go to different measures. Though I'm not entirely sure what those measures would be."

Devyn
He listened intently once more, ears perked, eyes on his father again. He had asked for the truth, and he was getting it. Part of him wondered if they had given Osic and Carnal this same truth, or if - because they had been there at the battle they had said words to keep them on their side. Although from what he understood, Carnal hated her mother, their mother. He shifted when Funeral had finished speaking. "What did you guys fight about?" Was his initial response.
Then he tilted his head, not really waiting for a reply on that. It wasn't too important on what he was going to say next. "Can Osic not die? And... I have... A request of sorts." his tail tip began flicking with nervousness, but he kept his posture straight as he waited for a reply before he continued. Omg shooort x.x my muse will come back soon though.

When his son skimmed over the question, he let it go. He wasn't about to really answer it anyway - the point was out, what did it matter what they had fought over?
His next words created a bit of a heaviness to his chest, however he did not show it. "We will see, my son. But.. there are sometimes consequences to mercy." He paused. "Speak your mind." He nodded to him, waiting.

Devyn
Devyn nodded his head in understanding. In all honesty he had not expected his father to consent to that. His father was king, and he had to treat each member - sons and daughters as well - equally. He also had not expected the question he first asked to be answered. After all what's done is done. No point in going back to dwell on little trivial things. However his father was listening now. Had told him to speak his mind. Where in the beginning Funeral had his attention, now he had Funerals'. However ...
However his request was no small thing. Devyn looked down at his paws, shuffling them a bit as a sort of panic overcame him. What he was about to say could go badly, very much so, or it could turn out in his favor. So with that in mind Devyn released a gust of air and lifted his gaze back up to Funerals once more, and straightened his posture back to its ramrod position. Now he was down to business. "You say mother had a soft spot for her children?" Devyn paused long enough for Funeral to either nod or say 'yes' before he continued.
"I do not want to fight my mother, Dad. Nor do I choose to fight against Meutrier. I first ask that I be left out of this war. Perhaps I'll attack a non family member on their side should it come down to it... Carnal needs me... but that is not the only thing I ask..." Devyn paused again, swallowed, then continued. "I also request for permission to go talk to Mom. I heard... I heard she had things she wanted to say. I won't spy on them, nor will I tell them anything of Meurtrier and I am asking you to trust me with this... But I want to know what words my Mother has to say about all of this. Just as I ha e asked you for truth. That is all I ask, I am loyal to you, Dad. But... I need answers as well." At last he finished.
Devyn took a dewp breath through his nose and waited once more for Funerals reply, but this time he did not fidget or remove his gaze from his fathers figure. This time he sat straight, and stared unblinkingly almost as he waited anxiously for the yay or nay to do as requested for either request really. It had been by far the biggest leap of faith he had ever taken. And so... He waited.

The Lord was quiet even after he listened. As before his expression was of neutrality, but into his eyes bore a strong thought. He was hesitant, and he stared at his son as though he were wondering how much he could trust him. "Devyn," He began, his voice becoming somewhat soft but understanding above all. "I know you wish for answers. I know you are loyal from your word..," He let in a long breath, ribs rising and falling slowly. "The most I will be able to permit is that you bring someone with you. Or someone will be watching you. It is for safety - not because I don't trust you. But these times are difficult for us all, I hope you understand my precautions." His brows were lifted just barely, showing concern flitting in dark emeralds.

Devyn had waited with baited breath, anxious adrenaline filling his system. When Funeral began, his breath hitched, but just as he finished, Devyn had launched himself through the close space between the two, his upper half up, and he had wrapped his forelegs in a giant hug around his dad. Whether it toppled them over or not with the force behind it would depend solely on Funeral, but Devyn was too over joyed to really care. Instead he held his dad, and couldn't help but nearly shout 'Thank you', over and over again.

A small smile appeared just before his son came toward him, and he would rock just barely, leaning back as the impact of the hug was given. He let out a hefty 'oof!' and a few halfhearted chuckles came afterward, leaning back to his usual posture. In that moment he realized how big his children were now, and just how grown up they were. And how weary he was becoming. A flicker hidden from his son within his eyes shown worry, but it quickly disappeared as he allowed his own paw to wrap around one side of Devyn, pulling him close for but a moment before loosening.
"Not a problem.."

Devyn pulled away after a small moment then gave the biggest grin up at Funeral. He had not expected this outcome at all. Not in the least, and he was beyond pleased with it. However his excitement didn't stop there and he practically danced paw to paw as he fired off questions, "Who do you have in mind? Can it be someone not hostile? Do I know them? Oh! What about Carnal and Osic? What if they're curious to? Can I talk to them?" In this moment of excitement he'd forgotten his sister didn't like their mom and their brother was locked up, but it was clear he wasn't thinking right now as he continued without preamble, "Would it be Circa? Or or or-" He cut himself off this time, eyes shining bright with unspoken emotion and pure gratitude. "Thank you, Dad!"

The father was glad - genuinely, unmistakably - that his son was happy for what he was allowing him to do. But the names he called only had the King lift his head slightly and a worried, furrowed gaze was given downwards to his son. "Circa I would allow, since she is indeed our Captain. But at the same time she is vital. I may send more than one warrior. You can tell your siblings what happened when you confront her, as I trust you to have an unbiased opinion and handle on things." A small smile was given. "Not a problem."

Devyn once more stepped forward to press against Funeral, brushing against him. His mind set cleared at his dad's words and so when he stepped back this time, he nodded understandingly and sat down once more. "Alright, kinda forgot about Osic and Carnal" he gave a small sheepish grin, "but who would you have in mind then? No one bossy though please. I think it'd be kinda bad if someone bossy went and then couldn't keep their head on straight..." he trailed off slightly, thinking over everyone in the pride. Who would go with him?
