So I uhh. Found a thing. It's kind of old-ish now but. Dunno, it was making me FEEL and this was begging me to be written so here we are. Kind of ties in with things sorta atm and there'll probably be a follow up in time
----------
It wasn't Heaven, not as they knew it. But it wasn't Purgatory either, like they were waiting with baited breath for the End that would never come.
No, it was more like...A pocket. A space between that offered them peace and shelter to those she wished to offer it's safety. Which, she must admit, she was more than a little biased to these in particular. Every deity had their own techniques, and this was hers. They were fully aware of themselves, capable of hunting any prey they wish so long as they willed it enough. Dens spacious enough for all and then some. Absolutely perfect.
"Send me back." The young cat-hybrid heard a strong voice thrum behind her, and she swiped a paw over the strange crystal she'd been looking through, to peer beyond her realm to where the now-broken Novis barely hung on by a thread. "Kay --" The new name she called herself -- "I have to go back." He demanded still, and she drew in a long breath, closing her eyes and exhaling again slowly. "Daemon." She finally breathed quietly, turning about to face him, shaking her head. "There's nothing for you there." She could sympathize, oh yes, if another had suddenly taken her away from her only family (a little cub named Raja) she'd be furious too. But it was for the best!
She felt the terrible things to come deep within herself, as she knew her fellow gods and guardians did too. And as the same, surely they took more than a few away to spare them the cruel fate of nature's wrath as well.
He was complacent enough to go with her that fateful night, (obviously rendered unconscious and helpless to argue like the rest of them) and he was content to stay up until this point as well...
So what changed all of a sudden? Sparking such a fire in the tusked Donovan?
Oh, she knew. She was no fool. Because just then, when she looked into her crystal, she heard a certain familiar voice. And then another. Two that were so near and dear, how could she be blind to hope he would be ignorant? "Yes, there is. They're alive." He growled, still treading thin ice with her for keeping the doom of Novis until there was nothing they could do but sit by, helpless to know if any of their loved ones made it to see the next day, or even the one after that. "Do it!" Daemon demanded yet again.
"For what?! To watch you perish? I won't!"
"He NEEDS me!"
A roar of finality, tinged with anguish. "-- And I need him. I can't," He shook his head, frustration to find the words. "You made this. You're a fool, and a coward!" He challenged, bristling, easily towering over her more than a few feet. "...And I was too. You know it, I know it." A tough piece to swallow, but acceptance was the first step to healing. "But not anymore. I refuse to let it end like this. I have to fix it." He snarled under his breath. "I have to get back to Orpheus, to them, one way or another." Turning away, he spat over his shoulder, "And if you won't help me, I'll find someone who will."
"You think they're going to welcome you back?! They never found a body, Daemon! For all you know, they could consider you turned tail and ran. Ran like a scared child, afraid to face the darkness." Kay hated to act like this. She loved them all dearly, and she truly only wanted what she thought was best. But,
Perhaps for once, the student has surpassed the master.
"I. Don't. Care." He snarled again, lips curled back over wicked canines. "I don't care about any of it! If they welcome me back as King, if they even welcome me back at all! It doesn't matter anymore! This is something bigger than titles and crowns. He's everything." Claws scored deep marks in the earth. "Even...Even if he doesn't want me back at his side. What does it matter? I still need to do this." A pause to catch his breath. "Who knows? Maybe you're wrong. Maybe he feels the same and we can fix this. Hell, maybe we want to leave and start our own group somewhere else! Better, above all of this!" He honestly didn't see that happening, too much bloodkin and responsibility at stake. But so long as he was with his brother, his best friend, he would go with him anywhere.
And then, there was a soft touch at his side, a peach tailtip with a blue mane, and Sickle offered a smile. "Me too. We never wanted any of this, Kay. If we had a choice, we would have GLADLY stayed with our families and fought together with them until the bitter end." A tested growl of her own in the back of the Dominante's throat. "You took me from my children. You took Aro from his entire family! And for what? To hide us away like a spoiled cub with her toys."
Needless to say, the young goddess was taken aback. Especially when others too came to stand with them. Emerson. Gallows. Riley. Skarlett. "I need to be with Cyber." Falek, Athena. Joker and her cubs. Tacitum and his daughter. DeMona, Phyre, and countless others that never got their chance. Never got their say. She was outnumbered. And couldn't just ignore it anymore. "You all...?" A nod rippled through them, the cubs staying close to their mothers, nervous and unsure, but willing to face the challenges that lie ahead.
And then, "Fine."
Dae nodded, but said no more, waiting. "I took so many, and while not all of you wish to go back, it will still take much out of me. I can't guarantee you'll just wake up right outside their camp, but. I can at least try and put you a few days walk away. Hopefully out of too much trouble." She grunted thoughtfully, brows knit as she considered her options. "It will...Take some time. For you to wake up, I mean. Possible side effects." He snorted, indifferent to the danger and recalling Odysseia and her own 'returned' companions. They'll make it through. Together. They have to. There was no other option.
She gestured for them all to gather closer with a flick of an ear, a twitch of the bell on her collar, and they did so, each of them receiving a simple tap of the nose to her's on their way, one by one each of them falling into that same odd trance as before. Eyelids growing heavy, bodies starting to slump over...Daemon and Sickle were the last, looking to eachother without an inch of fear. "...Take care of them. Return to your families. Rebuild the land together, and may I see you again when the time is right." Sickle first. A special one, along with a moment or two to whisper a message for only the two to hear. A request. She nodded in acceptance to whatever it was, and that was the end of it, the female falling into her slumber.
He braced himself, ears pinned, and she rolled her eyes softly. "I wish you the best of luck with him." Kay then looked at her paws, solemn and almost ashamed for her meddling. "...You know, I never intended for this. You and he were always to be together, and..." A low rumble from him, a scoff, and he tossed his mane. "Who was to say how it would pan out? Now I have to pray I can try to clean up this mess before it's too late." No doubt the nerves would spark when he found them again.
A nod. "Now, be aware that I can be of no further help to you." She explained. "This will be the stretch of my limits, and I will go dormant for quite some time." Quite some time as in years, possibly. No further intervention, hopefully no more interruptions to the natural flow of everyday life, good and bad. "It's fine. You were never much for showing your face anyways unless it was convenient, were you?" He dared to laugh. And it's true. Very rarely did she walk the land of the living, and being so new to her position, trouble always somehow seemed to follow. Maybe all she needed was some time to herself. Time to age, time to dwell on her wrongs and grow from it.
So without further ado, she could feel the strength ebbing from her physical form. It was now or never. A quick touch of the nose, and he was the last to make the trip back.
Back to Novis.
Back to destruction.
And back to life.
