Fexol Delirious
The screaming, the yelling, the endless torrent--he could barely sleep, barely think, suffocating in the abyss that was his empathy. He couldn't ignore the spirits like the rest of Exotica's members. Limbo had grown dangerous and loud in the wake of the recent disasters, the fringes of Sigma's land had buffeted by the wraiths like a tireless storm. Each screamed their own disintegrated thoughts, some having had less time to fall apart than others--they screamed names, obscenities, desires. Naberius' victims were among them, too. They called for the little grey nephalem, luring him to them, whispering their wishes only to enrage when he was powerless to help them.
"Tell Mommy I love her." A sweet voice, a small wraith. Next to it, a larger, less discernible figure wailed. "Give me back my children!" And behind them, one emerged from the terrain. "I want to live." It moved past the other two, so close to Fexol that he swore he could smell it. "Give me life. I want to live." "I-I can't do that..." His voice was weak. He felt the compulsion to answer, even if he knew they didn't listen. "Give me life. Life. Life. Living..." It rambled, shifting colors to a dark shade. "Give me your life." Its will to live meant it was willing to take his body, even if it couldn't, protected as he was with Sigma's veil. "I want your body." "Please..." His ears flattened and he felt the warm sting of tears. "I know you died too early. I'm so, so sorry..." "I want life..." "My children...!" "Mommy!"
He could hear them as he slept too. Senseless, heedless, and he wished he could help them, every single one of the hundreds that accumulated around their false haven. Sigma was cold--he wouldn't feel compassion for them. Sometimes, he'd even grab them, filtering them through a vine to some place unknown beneath the land. Please, if only he could do something...
One late night, he finally couldn't stand it. It had only been a few days, he was sure, but it felt like many more had taken place in this pseudo-hell. If only he could leave... He could do that, right? And if he didn't go far, maybe he wouldn't get hurt. The desire was too strong, just for peace and quiet. He made his choice--concentrating, he slipped through the veil between Sigma's land and the waking world, emerging on the snow-laden grass of Greatfalls. It was cold, but it was quiet, despite the echos of the voices. Why could he still hear the echos? Why? There weren't here, they couldn't be. But it didn't end.
And then he realized. The echos weren't voices around him, but the ones inside him. The ones he'd been forced to devour in the name of Naberius' cruelty. He couldn't ignore them like a true demon...
"I'm so sorry... I won't use you for bad things, I promise, just let me rest. I'll help you in any way I can..." They clamored, demanding he free them, but he didn't know how. This upset them.
The next couple hours were filled with him walking and talking to himself--or rather, the souls inside him. His horns which had nearly entirely grown in again had been ground off on the various trees and rocks in his path, leaving sensitive, bloody stumps where he had ground them too deeply and into the nutrient-rich veins that helped them grow. He was unaware of the world around him, and before he knew it he had made it to another area of Greatfalls. His legs gave out beneath him as joints stiffened in the freezing cold. "Let me rest, just for a little, I beg you all..." Amber eyes closed as his breathing turned shallower.
He was alive, but dormant. Sigma would not notice his absence--his life force's signature was always small. It would be like noticing the smell of an ant from across a room--impossible. Naberius was caught up in his madness. No--even as a prisoner, Fexol was entirely alone.
