Marius, adolescent now yet still fairly small having not hit his growth spurt yet, dipped his paw into the primary drinking source of the Meurtrian pride--the pond, center-stage of their den site. He thought he could see fish lurking beneath its surface, but really who knew what was in there--bones, maybe even forgotten monsters. He'd wait a moment until something in the murky depths would dart closer and attempt to crush it under his paw, claws striking out to grab the slippery devils--to little reward. In honesty, all he was succeeding in doing was clouding the water more with silt and mud as each swipe kicked up a plume of such filth.
Certainly he would be quite a sight to see; butt raised into the air, tail lashing around; a mere cub in bigger size. That wasn't to say he was innocent per se, for who among Meurtrier and its allies could claim such?
But damn he really was intent on catching a fish.

Zephyr Donovan-Iden
If there was one Zephyr was glad for, it was that he could get away from all the noise of his family den. He was still a teenager, prone to being moody and antisocial. Quite a bit often actually. His mother and Nerante were going on about healing and magic and whatever else, everyone was gone and doing their own thing and he had nothing to do. Everyone in Meurtrier and Jaaku were either too busy, too moody or both to hang around. So he had taken to wandering around the Veldt as well, wondering if anything could tempt his bored mind.
But nothing.
The mountains, the rocks, the little bugs that crawled around, remnants of bones and other things just weren't doing it for today. He tossed the light blue hair out of his eyes, it was overgrowing tremendously, and decided to wander back home.
But as he wandered back, he spotted some movement down at the Veldt dens; a lonesome grey figure was by the waterhole, looking quite focused on something. As he got closer, he recognised it was Marius.
"Hey bro," Zephyr greeted casually, bored, as he watched with bemusement. "The heck are you doing?"

"Fishing, or trying to. They're slippery devils." Raising his foot, he'd inspect it in disdain and sit down, tail curling around his forelegs. What was so wrong with his technique? Audits flattened and his prisms would flick over to his brother. "Can you catch one? I'd rather like to see how you manage it."
Compared to his brother, he was quite different. He was never one for remarkable mood shifts, volatile not in emotion but in the instinct to protect his direct family; a boy of pure loyalty. The best kind to have, but would never be good for more than a warrior or a scout in the eyes of Meurtrier and oddly, he found himself indifferent for far more reason than the fact he was only an ally. He was a do-good, a soul of a lighter color--no, Meurtrier was not the best place to call home for one of such a disposition but it was home, and he saw little difference between himself and the pride. They were what they were, coexistence and all.

Zephyr Donovan-Iden
A small smile appeared on his maw and those words were all it took to spring the young male into action; his brother was annoyed and he had a chance to prove himself better at something that seemed so easy. Of course, Zephyr adored his siblings (whether or not they liked him back was another thing) but it was time for a bit of light hearted banter. A little competitive streak as well.
"Sure, since you insist so much." He answered, and the dark brown body approached the edge of the waterhole and scanned the water quickly. Indeed he could see movement below the surface, the fish running scared but had nowhere to go. Not even afraid of the water, Zephyr plunged his paw in, claws out, with the intention of shanking the fish that wandered close to the shore. He would do it every so often, to no success.
"God.. damn.. fish!" He growled after several attempts, making a bigger splash with each frustration of failure that he been dealt with. Eventually he stopped and gave up. The only reward for his troubles was a dirty and soggy paw. An annoyed look came across his features and whether or not he liked to admit it, when prompted, the young male was quite a sore loser.

Syn A young body rolled about in a nearby den. Not really lazy just.. hot. Why was Syn so hot? She remembered the other place. It's heat. Different. Bah. She didn't understand how she could still be so hot under the shade. As she sat up, her ears twitched to noises about her. Was that.. Splashing? Curious, she poked her head out from a bush that had helped cover the den. She saw her brothers doing.. something with the pond. She was the smallest of them, still. But that didn't mean she couldn't do what they were doing.. right? Hell, the water would probably help cool her down. Slowly she padded forward, hearing some cursing as she moved. "Hey guys.. What'cha doin'?"

Somehow seeing that had made this whole failure seem every bit worth it, and with some residual... giggles, for lack of a better word, he motioned at his soaked paw. "May as well clean that off in the grass." For good measure, he did the same with his own; far better to wipe off some of the mud and water than to ingest it later while grooming.
Audits perked as Syn approached, and he would point to the water. "Trying to catch fish. They don't appear to be cooperating very much." Perhaps she could prove them inferior? It was traditionally the females' duty to hunt, after all. It was entirely possible, and he knew he'd enjoy Zephyr's response if she really did catch a fish.
Not that he wouldn't feel a bit burned, too.

Zephyr Donovan-Iden
His brown ears perked up at the arrival of their sister, Syn, and immediately felt even more disdain. Not at her, but at the fact that she could possibly do better then the both of them and.. that just wasn't right. As much as he had no initial negativity with Syn, Zephyr wouldn't be able to handle being humiliated.
"Hello Syn." He said, trying not to make his tone as begrudging as possible. He nodded at Marius' words, and looked to the water; they were still swimming around, taunting and asking for a challenge. He shook his head. "You know what? Screw this." He declared, and with a few paw steps back, he took a running leap into the water.
All that he could see and hear was the rush of water, but then his head poked out and broke the tension, blue tuft flattened above his eyes. Initially he struggled to keep afloat, but the waterhole wasn't too deep. He tread on the surface, growling competitively as he looked around and dived under for a few moments, intent on catching something.

Syn The ess perked her ears as she was informed about the fishing. Well.. she could try. She'd never done it before but what the heck, right? She moved to greet her brothers but stopped, catching the moody undertone of Zephyr's voice. Wonder what that was about. "Okay.. I'll tr--" Her words interrupted by Zephyr's outburst. She looked at him, jaw agape slightly. Well, wasn't he the cranky one. She hadn't fished but weren't they skittish slimy creatures? She was sure THAT wasn't the way to catch one. "Uh.. Zephyr.. Won't just just scare them away?"

Corvette had been snoozing peacefully at the bottom of the pond, half coated in sediment. The water was usually the only place he could get any sleep in the day time. However, he was not entirely at rest. He could not be, part of his subconscious kept his tail moving so water would pass over his gills. The sound of slight splashing did not wake him up, nor did the conversation. However when a large body entered the water, the land shark snarled and burst from the bottom and swam toward the edge where he could stand. His tail lashed in the water behind him. “What are you doing?” he demanded, sounding incredibly annoyed and a bit pretentious. “Does Meurtrier not teach its warrior how to swim? I do not want to have to play the ‘life guard.’” The creature then tilted his head and his gills flared a bit as he realized what all the floundering was about. They sealed again, but there was a highly amused grin on his face. “Wait. This must be an attempt to fish.” He assumed that it would go without saying that he was a rather good at catching fish, given his build and such.

NERANTE, BALTHIER II
[/i] Balthier II yelled as he padded up on the scene with his brother, Nerante. Balthier looked as amused as ever, while Nerante, as per usual, rather annoyed. The non-winged brother stepped up to their three younger siblings and gave the fish-cat, Corvette, a hard stare. Though it was hardly intimidating, as Balthier II was still grinning. "Haven't you heard of playing around? They're still young and all that. Leave them be. After all what's a day without some play. Rather boring if you ask me." While Nerante would not voice his agreement, it was clear by the lack of protest; to anyone who knew Nerante, that he did have no quarrels with what his litter-mate said. Though as Nerante observed, it seemed like they were trying to fish, but he said nothing and instead leaned back from where he had sat down.[/ul][/blockquote]

Honestly, all he could do for a moment was laugh--one because of how he obviously couldn't swim at first, and two because... well.
That was Zephyr for you.
It did occur to him to feel concern over this and make sure he didn't lose a brother quite yet due to swimming lessons gone awry, but Zeph would break the surface soon enough and ease away the tension of such. To this he'd spare a glance at Syn, and shrug.
Corvette's emergence was greeted with some wide-eyed staring--so here's where the beast makes his lair--though marbles did indeed collect themselves quickly what with Balthier II's and Nerante's appearance and he'd quirk an eyebrow, nonplussed by Corvette's obvious underestimation of them. How very presumptuous, and rude! "Nobody said anything about needing a lifeguard but if you're electing, sure. At least you'd be doing more than sleeping, huh Catfish?"

Zephyr Donovan-Iden
He knew how to swim at least a little bit.. well so he hoped anyway. After struggling to catch anything under the water, Zeph decided to break surface again to catch some air. The first thing he saw upon emerging though was the pride's resident catfish, as everyone seemed to have called him. He stared back at him, flicking away his now sogging blue fringe and spat out some water. "Oh.. hey there." The teenager said rather pleasantly, not seemingly fussed by Corvette's outlandish appearance. After all, he had seen worse with Viciado doing magic. "Sorry about the interruption, I'm trying to catch fish- Oh hey guys!"
Zephyr's blue gaze turned to stare at Marius and Syn, looking bug eyed at him and he just laughed. And then the arrival of Nerante and Balthier II just made him seek more attention from them. "Don't worry guys!" He yelled to his siblings. "I got this!" With a renewed childlike competitive streak going on, Zephyr treaded water looking and searching. As soon as he spotted one, he dived again. Bubbles on the surface indicated wherever he was, and he moved rather quickly to the west side of the waterhole. "I GOT ONE! He said triumphantly, as he appeared again, holding a fish in the air to show off to everyone.. until it slipped out of his paws. "Oh, GOD DAMN IT!" It was a rather loud swear, and as the fish made a brave escape, Zephyr dived under again in pursuit.

Syn Syn growled as others came near. Well, she only growled at the fish beast. The rest were family. Hm.. Maybe she should catch /it/! That'd be a better mean then those tiny pond fish. She shook her head and scowled at it. "Want us to catch you instead?" She growled rather rudely. Hey, the fish thing started it by assuming they couldn't catch a fish. She sighed as her brothers came over. Not that she didn't like them, but one was moody ALL the time. The other she swore had a brain tumor.. or something... Least he was fun to play and wrestle with. She did smirk when Balth called Corvett Fish Breath. Aha good one. "Zeph! I told you." She giggled as the fish slipped out of his grasp. She decided she wanted to try too. So she charged into the pond, making sure to splash Zeph and Marius. She noticed that with all of the boy's splashing, Most fish ad moved to the more shallow end to escape the ruckus. She charged at school, splashing and slaping the water hard, much like a bear. This made the fish panic and they began launching themselves out of the water in a frenzy. As one launched out, Syn snapped and clawed at it, grasping the wriggly thing within her jaws.. She snorted and shook her head with the fish until it calmed. She smiles, the fish hanging in her maw as she looked at the group. Really it was a joint effort. If Zeph hadn't scared them into a group near the shallows, this never would've worked. So, to show he was important in the catch, she presented Zephyr with the fish. and nodded. For him.

Caylis was walking around to see the Donovan-Iden family... fishing? Hm. This should be interesting, she sat down beside Nerante and Balthier II as she dipped her head in respect to all of them. "Hello." she said with a content look, her eyes then traveled to Corvette, the land shark. "Greetings." she said to him as she looked to Marius, Zephyr and Syn and smiled. "How is your day?" she said calmly to the two pair of brothers. (If i'm taking someone's turn, I apologize.)
Brynneth was sitting down by herself, as she looked at her paws with a rather depressed look, she started to make her way towards the pair of brothers and murmured, sitting down by Caylis. "Hey." she said, trying to fake a smile, trying to keep her depression to herself.

Corvette’s tail sank deeper into the pond water as his mood soured a bit more. “I can’t help it if other people scare away my prey and I have to resort to fish,” he stated to Balthier. “I just like to nap at the bottom of the pond during the driest parts of the day. Terribly sensitive skin, you know.” It was true that he loved the moisture, but it was really due to the fact that he felt most alive at dusk and dawn. “Well, your fluffy coats do suggest inferior swimming abilities,” he stated with a teasing smirk, aware that he slept more than most here. “I could probably teeth you all a thing or two about the aquatic life. At least you don’t mind getting your paws wet. Some here are just proper to delve in.” He then turned his aquamarine gaze on the female present and pulled a bit of a face. “You could try, but I doubt you’d succeed. But we can take a swim and see who comes out on top.” He moved his tail and created a small wave to effectively soak everyone. He looked at the escaped fish and cocked his head. “Besides, if we’re going for nicknames, I prefer Shark-face.” He opened his mouth to show rows of fangs embedded in his gums behind the permanent, more feline teeth. He jumped in the water and was after the flustered fish in seconds. In a few moments, a four foot long muskellunge was sported in his jaws as he breached. Slamming back down into the water, the fish was tossed onto the shore, the shark creature possibly showing off, or at least trying to demonstrate he should be taken seriously.
(Fail, rambling post.)
