Important Species Features are now highlighted in Yellow.
A shadowed-Demon is thought to be a spinoff of Hellhounds, though there is no clear relation between the canines and their would-be feline counter parts. The true whereabouts that this species comes from is unknown. Many like to think they once guarded the seven gates of Hell; that those that exist now are the spawn of those Hellish creatures.
Shadowed-Demons got their name from their strange ability to Shadow-Step. This ability was once thought to be the main way of transportation for the creatures. Very comparable to materializing from place to place, a Shadowed-Demon would literally step into a shadow, disappear and then reappear in a different shadow in some other place. There is a range however. You can not Step and appear in a shadow on the other side of the planet. The Shadow that one Steps into must be within their sights.
After they have Shadow-Stepped, a black mist flows around their body for nearly an hour. The more a Demon Steps, the thicker the mist and the longer it lingers.
Nowadays it is only the older members of this species that possess this “power”.
These Demons also have a telepathic ability. There are really no words transferred from one Shadowed to another. More often than not it is simply images and both emotional and physical feelings that are passed. This is only shared amongst their own kind. Purebreds have full ability over this when they reach the age of one year. The older one is the stronger the ability. It has been thought that an ancient Shadowed did obtain the ability to actually send verbal communication.
The more diluted the Shadowed blood the less likely any of these abilities will develop. Those that do however, have very weak communication skills and can only Step a mere few feet.
All Shadowed-Demons possess their own unique personality, just like all creatures. Not all are the same. Yet, the universal temperaments shared amongst these Demons consist of short-fuses, fiery personalities and impatient behavior.
Most pure Shadowed-Demons are strong purists. Mainly because there are very little of their species left.
These creatures are strictly carnivores. On average a healthy male S-Demon can consume up to 90lbs (40.8kg) of meat per day. Healthy females usually consume nearly 60lbs (27.2kg) and pregnant females take in about 80lbs (36.3kg) of meat.
Shadowed-Demons can go roughly two weeks without a meal before they begin slowly starving.
Small prey, such as birds, rabbits, and other rodents, will only fill an S-Demon up for about an hour and a half before they feel the need to hunt again. Large meals consisting mainly of buffalo, large deer or elk and moose will fill one Shadowed-Demons for roughly two days.
Females normally are receptive to breeding at all times. Yet, they only come into heat twice a year; usually in late Winter/early spring and late Summer/early fall. Litters range from two to five cubs per litter.
For some unknown reason male Shadowed-Demons carry more Y chromosomes than X. Because of this there is a surplus of males while females are hard to come by. This is what makes males so protective over their females, and why most are purists. Normal litters from a Shadowed-Demon male consist of usually only one female and the rest male.
Typically young females will stick close to their mothers while males will wonder off and return frequently until they gradually never come back. Because most are purists, Shadowed-Demons normally will stick together; forming prides.
Males are very protective over their females. Fathers are extremely picky about who their daughters mate with, even killing a male who is too persistent; especially half breeds or a creature outside of their species.
With their telepathic capabilities there is very little conversations spoken aloud, making this species seem like a quiet one.
The longest living Shadowed-Demon lived to be roughly 210 years old. Average S-Demons live to about 100 to 150 years of age.
The older the Demon the paler the eyes. When the age of 60 or beyond is reached the iris becomes completely white. Those that have wings start off with feathers and molt the feathers away at about 50 years of age, leaving behind leathery flesh.
Males are large and typically weigh in at around 1,025lbs. From nose to the tip of the tail a male averages about 19ft and roughly stand 9 to 10ft at the shoulder.
Highly protective and fierce, male Shadowed-Demons take shit from no one. Most are willing to kill in order to make a point.
More often than not they are smaller than their male counter parts. Average females weigh in at 990lbs. From nose to the tip of the tail a female averages about 15ft and roughly stand 7ft at the shoulder.
Because there are so few of them, females are very friendly toward one another. Even complete strangers will treat each other like long lost family. Female S-Demons also make for excellent mothers.
Newborns are able to open their eyes and hear at about two or three days of age. Cubs are weaned at two months but will continue to suckle from their mothers until they are four or five months of age; this is normally for keeping a strong bond between mother and cub.
Pelt colors are dark. Normally grays, maroons, browns and black. (Albinism is extremely rare. Talk to me first before making one)
The Underfur is normally only a few shades lighter than the pelt or a variation of tan.
Manes are black, maroon or the same color as the Above eye.
Noses are either black or a dark pink/plumish color
Above eyes are shades of maroon, dark tan or darker than the pelt.
Below eyes are black, shades of maroon or the same color as the Underfur.
Ears are shades of tan
Tail tip is the same color as the Mane.
Eye colors range from various shades of orange, yellow/gold, or red. (The older the S-Demon the paler the eyes. White eyes are an indication of a rather old Shadowed-Demon.)
Wings are either black or the same color as the Pelt.
Markings are black, the same color as the Pelt, a few shades lighter or darker than the Pelt, or the same color as the Underfur.
