This is heavily inspired by Egyptian and Greek god mythology. So while roleplaying a character may say: "Thank the Gods you're alright!" And this brings to mind, who are these "Gods"? Where did they come from or what do they look like?
In an effort to further expand the world we've all created, this is a brainstorming thread for these so called Gods. They will be more like symbols for the unexplained than actual playable characters. Much like Egyptian and Greek gods and goddesses were.
I want to just make some lore on Novis Gods. Concept what our characters think those gods would look like. Perhaps there are shrines/temples scattered around Novis for these various Gods for characters willing to believe in these Gods to go and worship them.
Feel free to pitch in! Making up your own Gods to go along with this! This will probably be on going and take some time to finish. The Gods should have intimate connections to one another. Such as who is the parent of who? What scandals lay around other Gods? Who is partnered to who? And so forth. Pretty much I think it'd be cool if it was all one big gigantic story broken into many smaller stories. Much like the stories of the Greek Gods.
The appearance of the Gods can be virtually anything. What's listed is more of a base idea. The God doesn't have to look like that specific animal as we know it. Considering most of our own characters hardly resemble existing animals that we know.
God Titles:
God of the Sun (A red fox?)
God of the Moon (A silver fox?)
God and Goddess of Stars (White lion - Buri / Coyote - DJ via Buri)
God of Death (White raven with skull face?)
Goddess of Fertility (A rabbit/hare. -Buri / More like Kahara - Kah))
Goddess of Hunting (A lioness adorned in somewhat of African tribal gear?)
God of Prides/Groups
Goddess of Family (Wolf - Splash)
Goddess of Travelers (A crow?)
God of Strength (A Tiger?)
God of Wrath (Water Buffalo)
God of War (Massive bear - Buri / A large antlered buck - Kah)
God of Fear (A snake?)
God of Wisdom/Guidance (Combine all owl species - Buri)
Goddess of Love
Goddess of Fire (Married to God of Water)
God of Water (Brother to God of Oceans)
God of Lava (Son of Fire and Water)
Goddess of Children
Goddess of Healing/Wellbeing
God of Memory (Elephant or turtle - Splash / Combined - Buri)
God and Goddess of Nature (Looks like a Giant Elk/Giant Moose - Buri)
God and Goddess of Prey
God of Fertile Land/Territory
Goddess of the Seasons (Mother to the Gods of Winter / Spring / Summer /Fall)
God of Winter
Goddess of Spring
God of Summer
God of Fall
Goddess of Destruction (Hyena - Buri)
Goddess of Peace (Whale)
Goddess of the Sky (Eagle?)
God and Goddess of Pleasure
God of Oceans/Seas (Looks like a Giant Shark with four legs and walks along the floor of the deepest oceans. Has horns covered in seaweed and other underwater plants. - Kah)
Goddess of Rivers (Daughter of the Oceans God / Koi - Splash)
God of Lakes (Son of the Oceans God / Koi - Splash)
Other ideas? C:

This could open up plots for Pride ideas. Maybe a pride that is solely built up around the idea of one or more of these Gods/Goddess?

Feel free to toss up names for Gods/Goddesses. And for those that don't like to draw, feel free to describe some Gods/Goddesses and I'll sketch them out. Other artists are welcome to also concept some Gods/Goddesses if you want

Gonna throw out there that maaaaaybe it's possible that some may see Dante Donovan as a God? Some may see him as a God of Life or a God of Death, depending on who he was as a character whilst alive to them. Like those in early Blitz who may have opposed Dante or something could see him as an evil god, or those in Meurtrier value him as a God of protection?? I say this because a lot of my characters will say "Dante ______" instead of God. Example: "Dante forbid..." or "Dante damn it all."
Ofc unless Vee is uncomfortable with this?? Anyway that aside I don't have much input. Praise the Gods \o/

I thought about this but didn't add him because he's more of a personal God for Meurtrier. Like, THE God of Meurtrier xD

Mmmm, not sure. I made up gods for the Order, and just renamed them around a bit for my upcoming thing. It feels a bit brash to just put up terms for things and come up with names and shapes for them meant for the whole world.
But I really really like the idea of gods! Lets have many gods, lets not just have one sun god, lets have many!
I don't want to be tactless but the easiest thing would be to put up resources and comparisons on the gods of religions still existing and passed of this world. So people would have an easier time coming up with them.
IE. Frankly Thor, Perun, Zeus, all three gods were the chief gods, most worshiped by the people. They have quite a lot in common despite being of different sources: - they were not the first created and likely in most sources didn't create the world. - all three of them fiddle with lightning - people apparently loved them a lot - BEARDS (Note how people rarely worshiped the event or that one specific god or more gods that created the whole world)(Which also hints on the development of monotheism)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So I guess since you inspire this from...egyptian gods(despite being more spiritual guides more than gods, but they are still hella cool) And since you guys are assigning things to them too:
The Egyptians (or in our case: felines) would pick animals to represent on very basic things, you know how you there just assigned animals to basic concepts? Yes those animals have attributes. Or in this case of Egyptians the animals ARE attributes. You need to know a certain amount of symbolism to get this: IE dog is loyalty,)
But that's not that. They drew inspiration from ancient cults. Egyptians used to have a cult of cattle, cattle is life, goods, wealth. This is some sort of respect to animals. But also...They feared animals. The hawk/falcon flying over the sky, sun. He our patron god watches over u all. The hippopotamus, snake, crocodile is an animal many Egyptians feared, they respected them too.
So, of course the African lion would watch over the horizont, watch the birds fly, they must be free spirits, maybe they guide our dead to paradise?, The lion would revere the water buffalo; source of food but also a strong opponent. The scavenger, the vulture, probably represents death...Or are they just the messengers? Bringing the souls to their master, to hell? Gazelles pretty animals, easy source of food. A pregnant gazelle is the symbol of life, she the food and the child the future. Fertility... The crocodile and hippopotamus the lion fears, they are strong and they prey in the water. Especially the crocodile, is he possibly the cause of draught? The terrible terrible event that draws us near him in need for water? You know, the snake, it bites really bad and I have seen many die after. Poisons and things, bad, very bad. Possibly....snakes are bad spirits! (Just don't walk past a talking snake, they will be really upset if you call them evil spirits :c ) etc. etc.
Monkey: Trickster god, god of wisdom and taunts Buffalo: War/death Vulture: Soul guides Crocodile: drought Gazelle: fertility Hippo: River god Eagle: Sun/chief god Snake: evil spirits I feel like earth shouldn't have a personification, should be just called mother!
Also when comming up with terms to represent gods, the best idea would be to look at the animal and realyl think what is important to a species, what they fear, what they don't understad etc. Gods were a means to explain what normal people couldn't.

Honestly I think of our fursonas (i.e. us) as gods, I even made it canon that WG is a god lD and it would make sense
But other than that, there can be like, many many gods based on species and who is worshipped by who?

WE SHALL BE THE GODS OF THE GODS. HIGH-GODS.
I think of our 'sonas as the puppeteers, but not visible. Beneath them, they have Gods who wear a visible face and are known--such as how F.J. uses Dark Vincent to speak and act on her behalf, though he is literally just darkness itself and not really worship-worthy at all.

Same^
And I forgot to add, it depends on what each species worships and who's a god to who. Dante is a god to Meurtrians although he isn't technically one, he just ascended to that title because so many people know his name and look up to him I guess? And Walter is followed around by a pack of Kelvonites that worship him because he's big and looks like one, even though Walter (although having some powers) isn't exactly a god LOL

The Gods idea is something just for fun. It doesn't necessarily reflect the views of all the creatures in Novis. [8:51:38 AM] ӄɨȶ | ɖʀɨʄȶɛʀ: More like a, "Oh I actually really like this God... Maybe my character such and such would follow them in some way." Just another way to expand our world. If you don't want any of your characters to acknowledge any of these Gods what so ever, then it's okay ^.^
I also had the idea of this being a general guide to all the gods. If you have gods of your own, feel free to add them and they can be included. There can be multiple gods representing the titles. This can be more of a reference. For those that are like "Hmmm what are the religious bases of Novis?" They could come here and see them. All of them. Not just one specific sect of Gods. Yesterday when I made this I just didn't know how to say that in words. I got excited with the idea and threw something together. >.>

I know the Voodanians and Najureans had gods of their own, but I don't remember them anymore. I wish I did. I think the Najurean one was a male leopard of some sort.

Some of my own ideas
God/Goddess of Prides/Groups - Lion/Wolf (leaders, will have warpaint all over them)
Goddess of Love - Swan (love for life, half white, half black, yin and yang)
Goddess of Children - Elephant (they make amazing parents, always depicted crading a calf)
Goddess of Healing/Wellbeing - Orangutan (I just think rafikki but orang's come to mind for this, lots of shamanistic paint and herbs)
God and Goddess of Prey - Ungulates (White tail deer come to mind)
God of Fertile Land/Territory - Turtle (Native american Mother Earth fertility symbol, shell is wooden and covered in plants)
Goddess of the Seasons - (Snowshoe hare changes colors every season, wearing appropriate plants for the season going on)
God of Winter - Polar Bear (made of snow, wears armor made of wood)
Goddess of Spring - Robin (was always told if you see a robin it means spring is here) (wears all kinds of flowers)
God of Summer - Camel (can withstand extreme heat, has a tree growing from his hump)
God of Fall (Autumn) - Squirrel (they store nuts for hibernation at this time, his tail is a tree of autumnal colors)
God and Goddess of Pleasure - Two snakes, usually seen coiled around each other. (celtic symbols come to mind) ---
Other Gods/Goddesses ideas
Goddess of the Weather - Gigantic Black Crow that appears rainbow due to iridescent feathers (usually depicted creating thunder and lightning with her wings, with each flap a gust of wind. They say where one sees a rainbow, they have seen the tail of the goddess)
If I think of others I'll post em

To add some of my own from the tribal-esque Kelvonites:
Kel the Reveler is the main god of Kelvonites (he represents jubilee and good times), which was actually just a kelvonite himself as was his wife Kia the Giver, is the secondary godess who represents life and actual serious things. The Twins of War are Xeros and Xactos, Xeros being brute force and Xactos being tactile and cunning. Walter is worshipped as "the giving one" by an independent group of about 20 kelvonites
As for Voodanians, I have no idea nor remembrance of the original religion. I'll probably have to rethink it or give it a new tune.
And WG is an unspoken god who helps control shit yadda yadda yeah
