Sleeping on the job. Someone was already setting a bad example.
Tyzer rested in a clearing a ways outside of Bluecrest's campus. His academic program had been growing recently, but he didn't suppose they needed his constant attention. They were good kids, right? They probably wouldn't burn down the castle. Perhaps it was his newness to being a leader that led him away from the campus, or perhaps he had different intentions, something more constructive.
His ears gave a few twitches as they picked up noises in his sleep. A cracking sound nearby grew louder and louder until it was unable to go unnoticed, even in his mostly unconscious state. Tyzer awoke and raised his head, blinking away the sleep. He got up, stretched, and then shook himself off. He looked around the clearing briefly until he saw the source of the crackling noise. An orange flame licked at the sky several feet away. Tyzer was instantly alert, his pelt prickling as he closed the distance between him and the fire in a few short bounds. He didn't seem alarmed or fearful as he approached, but excited at the sight of the blaze.
Before he had dozed off, Tyzer cleared a spot on a fairly flat rock and constructed a fire consisting of dry grass and some sticks. With a shard of glass he had found on his travels several weeks earlier, he propped it up above the tinder and waited through the heat of midday in some shade. He hadn't known what the glass was at first, but knew what fire was and he observed the way the glass magnified the heat and light of the sun. A bit of deducing later, Tyzer had created fire. It was small and hard to feed, but it was fire.
Tyzer dropped some sticks into it and watched them catch flame. He ran back to the spot he had been napping in and nosed into one of the pouches that was usually slung around his back. He pulled out a small bundle wrapped in a dried leaf and hurried back to the fire. He hesitated, looking at the bundle skeptically. It was something gifted to him, also during his travels. He knew it wasn't anything medicinal or sacred, but he knew what he had to do with it.
Tyzer tossed the dry bundle into the fire. Almost instantly, a cloud of smoke blew up. The young male jerked his head away from the fumes and stumbled backwards in a fit of coughing. He could barely see the ground in front of him and he wasn't sure what had become of the fire, but he managed to get himself away from the result of the smoke bomb.. or at least somewhere less concentrated. Several minutes passed as he crouched on the ground. As the smoke billowed upwards, it dispersed from the area, and visibility returned to the Headmaster. He was covered in soot and the fire was only a few cinders now. Still, he couldn't help but watch in awe as the smoke streamed upwards and hung among the sky like a dark cloud. Amazing. Surely they could see it from the campus, and he wondered how many in the area would notice it too.

Walter Sullivan & Vaultino
Walter was busy at the moment, answering some of Vaultino's many questions about herbs and where to find them. The young male was extensive in his research, but the new Dean took a sort of pride in that, he was someone more than willing to learn and listen, so he had quickly earned Walter's respects. Yet just as he arrived at the talk of Jungle and it's highly variant flora, his nose wrinkled at the sudden waft of ash in the distance. Vaultino cocked his head, and his pelt prickled in alert, but Walter didn't seem to worry. He knew what a fire was, and could tell this one wasn't big enough to cause concern yet- though Vaultino was already many steps ahead of him outside the campus in curiosity. Walter decided to follow, simply to oversee the situation if there was one.
As the Headmaster appeared in both the males' views, yet while Vaultino suddenly looked worried at his brother's sooty appearance, Walter gave an encouraging smirk as he looked at the fire. "Looks as if someone has mastered the art of fire... Sort of." The large male chuckled a bit as he let out his grey wings to air away any remaining smoke from around Tyzer, yet carefully so as not to further fuel the flames. Meanwhile, Vaultino sniffed at his brother's soot-laden pelt, before turning his nose to the fire with a sneeze. "What did you put in that thing?"

Rose Donovan
The Donovan was walking around the campus until a er.. mini explosion caught Rose's ears, she saw Headmaster Tyzer all covered in ash and soot. Rpse raised a brow and chuckled, looking up to the Headmaster rather amused and questioning. "What in Dante's name..." she trailed off before snickering slightly

Hanako
A young lioness had been very eager to learn about herbs and the art of healing. So eager that she'd managed to talk her father into letting her attend the academy. Hanako bounced over to almost every flower she encountered on her way to examine it. She was just about to stop by a flower when a explosion of smoke and fire startled her. "Woah! What was that!?".

Tyzer was still watching what was left of the cloud as others were drawn to the scene. He turned to look back as several of his members approached. He chuckled a little as he turned around. He must have looked.. quite unprofessional. He shook off his pelt, but it still felt a bit gritty. There would be time to clean himself up later. He looked around and gave each of them a nod of acknowledgement. They all seemed to wonder what had caused the cloud of smoke. This was good. Inquiring minds, searching for answers and passing them on. This was the kind of crowd he wanted to associate himself with. This is who he wanted to bring together. However, he wasn't sure what he would tell them. He hadn't yet figured out how all that smoke managed to fit in a little bundle of leaves. Tyzer went over to where he left his pouch and slid under the strap until it was on him and over his back. He returned to the fire and waved some remaining smoke away with his tail as he salvaged his shard of glass, which was now opaque and smudged. He cleaned it off quickly and turned to face those who had gathered. "Colleagues, scholars," he began, "do not alarm yourselves." He pulled out another smoke bundle and set it on the ground near Vaultino. "This is a smoke bomb. Note it's results when combined with fire. Distracting, but not noxious." The Headmaster nodded his head, clicked his tongue, and continued. "Couldn't tell you what's in it just yet, but I can tell you about this." He picked up the shard of glass between his jaws and displayed it. "Dry th- ah..!" The polished object dropped into the grass, and the salty taste of blood spread through Tyzer's mouth. He nudged it away towards someone else. "...Dry things will catch fire if the light through this object is focused on it for long enough. A valuable tool; we can use the sun's energy this way. Perhaps there is more where this came from." He shifted on his paws and rubbed his cut tongue on the roof of his mouth.

Noana McCormick
The elder had appeared on the scene with his daughter in tow, smiling to himself as she leapt and bound at all the flowers nearby; Hanako definitely had a sixth sense for them and a major curiosity streak to boot. Word had spread around about the academy and how it taught various skills that young ones could learn as they grew up.
Noa knew that at least one of his cubs would want to go and to no surprise at all, it was Hanako. Without much thought, he agreed to it, thinking it would be good for her to learn from more experienced and open minds. There was only so much that he could teach her.
They hadn't travelled very far before he could get the scent of something that didn't scream like a pride - more like a flurry of psychedelic sounds and smells that he couldn't exactly describe. His daughter was lucky; he wished he had gone to an academy when he was young.
"Now now, Hanako," He chided, keeping in his slow movement pace. "We're visitors here, behave yourself."
It seemed like the universe had decided to do some of his parenting as the presence of a huge explosion startled them both. He hurried over to Hanako, worried for a split second, but relaxed at the sight of the being responsible for it.
"This could be interesting." Noa noted, before motioning his daughter to walk closer to the crowd of lions and other sorts. He figured the one standing in the middle of it all was a teacher or headmaster perhaps. He had heard the names, but didn't know the appearances. From the looks of it he seemed really down-to-earth and knowledgable.
Nonetheless, he just watched the demonstration with Hanako close by.

Corvette felt a little proud of himself, being a professor and all in an academy. It was one of the few times he allowed himself to be a bit cocky. However, it was not destined to last for long. As the strange, shark feline trotted through the soft grass, a loud explosion made him trip and sprawl into a heap. His long, fin like ears began swiveling about before he even regained his senses. Was Jasper here? Sounded like some of the brute's experiments he had assisted with, mainly because he could fetch things from the bottom of lakes and such.
Slowly, the gray beast got to his feet, moving so he was now walking on his knuckles, afraid that pieces of rock my pierce the overly sensitive skin on his paw pads. Upon spotting the source of the explosion and the soot covering the headmaster, he was no longer surprised. As he came onto the scene, he smirked a little. "I seem to remember a phrase... 'Curiosity killed the cat,' am I right?" he teased lightly. He listened to what he had to say, but his eyes came to focus on the shard. "I've found a plethora of fascinating objects at the bottom of estuaries, lakes and such. There may even be some things about castle's water source." His gills flared, wondering if Tyzer may ask him about it. Despite his words, he was very curious and questions whether he was the one asking or being asked. "And there is a rock that grows. Lots of curious things in the water." But how would he show them? Few others possessed his ability to see underwater, much less breathe there. He would have to look into way to trap air underwater for his colleagues and students.
(There are some detailed images of Corvette in my doodles thread, for those who want to know what he looks like better.)

JUDITH
She murmured and studied the materials carefully as she listened to what the Headmaster had to say. It was important to learn all you could, and to take from it in ways that may not have been intended. So lost to eyeing the materials, Judith had not noticed that others gathered as well. It was only to be expected! Such a marvelous blast would pique curiosities. At Professor Corvette's mention of neat things beneath the wavy surface, she turned to face him, eyes wide. "It sounds neat. I'd love if we could go under the water with you, sir." Judith turned back to Headmaster Tyzer. It didn't appear that, what Tyzer found, could be of use in going under water. Both of these subjects now equally had her curiosity. She began to wonder if this smoke bomb could somehow help others medically. It was definitely looking into. And there could be something at the bottom of the water as well! Possibilities! [/ul][/blockquote]

Walter Sullivan & Vaultino
Vaultino's ears flicked as his brother set the object towards him, and sidestepped a bit away from it uneasily. "Dangerous, nonetheless." He muttered, flicking a look towards the shark-like professor at his little joke. Please don't hurt yourself, he pleaded inwardly; wincing as Tyzer got his tongue cut into by the shiny object he tried to show them. Though behind the sour male, Walter was chuckling. "Energy from the sun is a powerful thing, as is energy from waves- the moon." He muttered as he picked up the bloodied piece of glass with his claws rather than his paw pads. He examined it with his one good eye; "Perhaps this could be a valuable tool, we need to put our minds together to figure out just how, though."
Putting the piece down, he turned his attentions to the aquatic creature, suddenly looking interested at the talk of flora beneath the surface. He would want to look at that, perhaps the herbs of the water would be just as of use and health as the ones above... "Could you do that sometime, Corvette? I'd love to study some of the plant life down there, as I can't get that deep myself. It would be much appreciated."

Rose looked at Tyzer with a spark of concern as the bloodied piece of glass before looking to the Voodanian Angel mix. "Hey Professor Walter.. perhaps it could used for astronomy or science?" she suggested with a smile along with a curious expression before turning to see Hanare coming their way.
The green 'ess nodded to everyone in respect before looking to the shark-like feline with a curious look. "I wonder what it's like underwater, Professor Corvette, I am a student in your class and I really want to see what it's like underwater, so interesting to see what it's like." she said calmly before shrugging and looking about.

Tyzer gave a nod of approval as he listened to his colleagues speak to him and exchange words among themselves. He looked to each of them, taking in their opinions, ideas, and advice. Exciting, indeed! With a collection of minds like this, the potential for innovation was unlimited. He turned his head to spit out some blood and gritty substance. "Still alive, aren't I?" He chuckled, flashing a grin at Vaultino and then Corvette. "That so? Very interesting.. The sea and the sky, entirely different worlds of possibility. Proceed with expeditions as frequently as you'd like." Tyzer thought for a few moments, considering everyone's input on the idea. "Ah, think of the treasures.. and the tools!" He nodded to the shard that Walter had just been holding. "Why, that gives me an idea. How about we make a little contest out of it? Whoever can find and bring back the most interesting and useful of tools, objects, or curio will win! A friendly academy competition, eh?" He shifted on his paws, then paced a little. "And whoever wins will get.. hm.. They'll get to keep said object, as well as the rest of these smoke bombs." He shook his pouch, and several more bundles tumbled out onto the grass. He scooped them into a pile. "We'll give it a week or so, enough time to look for stuff. Certainly doesn't have to be from the water, but that might be a good place to start since we're on such topic. When the time comes.. Mister Walter and I will decide. If you wish, of course." He turned to Walter to catch his response, but his attention didn't stay for long. "Excuse me, if you will." Tyzer stepped closer to where Noana and Hanako were observing. He gave them a welcoming nod of acknowledgement before saying anything. "I'd like to apologize if my little experiment has disturbed you and your family, I can assure it's nothing toxic or lasting." This older male didn't seem very disturbed, more curious, but Tyzer would be courteous anyway. "Tyzer, Headmaster at Bluecrest. You're welcome to stick around if you'd like. You might learn something." He quirked his eyebrows briefly before glancing around at the rest of the group.

Noana McCormick
The orange-maned male gave a small bow of his head to the headmaster in front of him, knowing his manners and respect seeing as how he was being given it in turn. A small smile reached his features as he went to eye level with the Headmaster. "It's okay," Noa reassured him, giving a small laugh. He looked to Hanako, who was still hopefully close by. "I'm sure that just made my daughter even more curious about what goes on here. Anyway, Headmaster Tyzer, my name is Noana and this is my daughter Hanako," He gave a small gesture to the cub and tried to prompt her to open up to the Headmaster. "We travelled here because word had spread about the Academy and Hanako wanted to see what it was all about, and wanted to learn about the flora and all that. By trade, I'm a healer but.." Noana looked around, watching all the students and professors go about their business; it was full of activity and life. All creatures learning and loving and enjoying their youth. He turned back. "There's only so much I can teach her. Maybe I need a few classes." The older male gave a small laugh to himself, but inside his mind he was seriously considering the idea. "So what classes do you teach, Headmaster?"

Hanako
Hanako was still a bit startled from the explotion, but obediently followed her father. A group of lions were talking nearby and one of them stepped closer to Hanako and her father and gave them a nod in aknowledgement. The little lioness tilted her head; "Did you create the big boom?" she asked and gazed up at the headmaster before it shifted to her father; "Are you going to school too!? Yay!"
